MAINE VILLAGE WEAVER

I asked my son who lives on Orcas Island in WASHINGTON state to bring  me a Madrone branch last Christmas . I know that may seem strange to some of you but I had this idea in my mind  to take this beautiful branch and weave a section of in for a wall hanging.   Madrone branch with leaves and my weaving  I used some of my hand dyed wool  The hand dyed wool I used plants found in my neighborhood  Plants that I used were mainly Japanese Knotweed and  Goldenrod  I mix my yarns with iron to “ sadden” the color  The blue green is a commercial yarn  Leave a comment below I’d like to hear from you 

Two pictures of my work of weaving at the loom this fall . I am making a hand dyed wool rug . The yarn on the loom is 8/4 poly/cotton and the wool strips are sewn together in a random fashion . I am using blues , browns , greens , with a dark red and pumpkin colors .This will be the last of this colorway as the wool strips I have dyed will be all used up to make this rug .  Weaving at the loom this time of year is my favorite as the sun comes in and warms my back as I sit and weave.

 Hand Woven Cotton Chenille upholstery fabric is also naturally Hand Dyed with indigo by Botanical Shades. Diamond pattern woven in cotton chenille is sturdy and can be used to upholster a chair . Hand woven means I use a floor loom and throw a shuttle filled with yarn back and forth as I weave the intricate pattern . Pedals under the loom raise and lower the threads in a system that creates the design . Hand dyed means that Botanical Shades used indigo plant dye to create the color . Unique and each pieces is one of a kind .

Full of sunlight today and ready to thread the loom ! I have got my three layers of clothing on two pair of socks and of course my long Johns, Ha ! The yarn going on the loom is hand dyed merino two ply , it glows in the sunlight . Icy cold green blue color

Maine Spring Lambs Spring time is happening on a Newcastle Maine  farm   Annie is holding a day old cheviot lamb Today we are a day away from spring and expecting snow and a  "Nor'easter " (Maine accent) which means the strong wind comes out of the north east and usually with snow   One year it pulled a mature azalea bush right out of the ground in front of my house facing north east. "Batten down the hatches,matey , we are headed for a gale !  " (imaginary saying of a mariner)
