  Denim blue and natural color cotton yarn used to create this yummy hand woven fabric for a bedspread  Traditional way to make a hand woven bedspread is to seam the two pieces together . The hand loom limits how wide you can weave a piece  My loom is 60 inches wide  So two pieces are sewn together seam is in the middle of the bedspread in the denim blue check  Looks fabulous on an antique canopy bedv Here is a close up of the seam . New England Team Challenge is a team I belong to on the web site called Esty.com. It is just like it sounds, New England crafts made in Vt, Ma , Me , Ct,and RI . A team of sellers and buyers wanting to support local crafts. The weekly team challenge is to bring to attention Maple Syrup and Mud season here in New England. So the color brown was picked . I work in a lot of shades of brown as you know . My tobacco brown runner was picked to be in the blog. They have always called this windowpane check because it resembles the small windowpanes in old houses. Now with crank out windows this old term is losing meaning.Nine over six casement windows are on all older homes around here. This means there are 9 panes of glass over 6 panes of glass. two throws in Pumpkin and Tan windowpane  check So they named fabric with this grid windowpane. Now the light brown yarn is pumpkin in my way of thinking and the tan is a gray tan . You can see on my Facebook page that I made a bedspread also out of this fabric. All cotton 50 inches wide by 72 inches long machine washable  and dry . I have hemmed all the way around this throw with hand stitches and added my label. I have never tried black as a alternative to tan but I have a feeling it would look wonderful.What do you think? Rust color thread with a sand tan thread in a small windowpane check . I don't seem to have a photo on hand . I will have to photograph it while on the loom. I am weaving it 50 inches wide and the finished width will be around 45-46 inches wide. Yep ! you loose that much in the weaving take up an then when I wash it to set the fabric it shrinks some more. I will probably put on 10 yards of cotton thread sett at 18 ends to the inch . Let's see 18 ends times 50 inches is 900 threads to handle . Just a short warp. I am waiting to hear from an interior decorator if I am going to be weaving two mohair throws for a yacht in the Caribbean. I don't want to have a lengthly warp on the loom holding up the flow. I enjoy color and watching the fabric grow with each throw of the shuttle. There is a rhythm that happens . A peaceful rocking back and forth with repeated motion. It is so apart of my daily activity for hours I spend working at the loom.  I have two big warps to weave after...

I am in the midst of finishing weaving Black and Khaki ticking and a Black and Khaki check , some unique towels thrown in for custom orders. Will show soon !

Simple windowpane check woven in beautiful pumpkin colors. This will be my next fabric to create when I get done with the indigo and stoneware I am working on right now. I am always dreaming of what is going to be next and that is what spurs me on.

Here is the finished product ! The fabric I wove earlier in this blog I thought I would show how it came out as a bedspread and used in the pillow shams. On top of the ticking pillow shams is solid red rust cotton shams I wove earlier this year . set of two left.I use mother of pearl shell buttons for the pillow opening.

Here is cotton fabric taken after the look of old ticking fabric.The warp threads are raised and the shuttle is passed through to create the web of cloth. Cotton yarn was used of yellow tan slubby yarn and red rust . All color fast it can be washed gently . Sturdy enough to be hand towels this fabric will go into pillow shams and a bedspread.It will match the previous bedspread created in a post in this blog earlier this year. This is a popular item for me. I can create this in any of my fabrics. Machine washable on gentle cycle and dry in dryer on cotton delicate . This pillow sham should give years of enjoyment. Lovely created with seams all enclosed and three mother of pearl buttons you can come and see at the Gallery of American Craftsman show for the trade only. The size is 18x28 inches and holds a standard pillow easily.
