Selvages

When weaving it is hard to cut the material after it is woven . Carefully washing and pressing your fabric and now what to do with it ? I came across this wonderful usage of hand woven fabric on the Mendocino wool and Fiber website . https://www.mendowool.com/blog/fabric-usage Her explanation of using the fabric for a top makes a lot of sense and I am going to try it . Happy weaving!

Living the dream

Image
We were not always working as artists but have created this lifestyle for ourselves . We made the decision 30 yrs ago to create and live off of what we make with our hands. Andy was away fishing King Crab in Alaska for 5 years and we had two little boys that wanted to know " where's daddy" . It was hard "yes " but we knew not forever. We sold our piece of land on Orcas Island ,San Juan Islands in Washington state and moved back east to the Maine coast. Now we live in a 200 yr old house on the Pemaquid Pennisula after raising our three children and can look back now and say "yeah " that was a great decision! Our basic theme here is " build it and they will come" . We have stress at times but you know it is different kind of stress. When we decide on our own deadlines is different than deadlines imposed on you. We are free to make decisions for our selves . Long hours you bet , but who working for himself doesn't want to go the extra mi...

Antique Coverlet This  a special sort of blue , I guess I would call it "Marine Blue" as it is not a dark navy but a gorgeous shade. This oldie has a few rips and holes but still has a charm about it It is all wool and is woven in two layers so this side is blue with white and the reverse is white with blue. It would fit a 3/4 to double size bed If interested you can email me :leck@midcoast.com or call 207 563-5788 and I can email more pics

Iron Bowl Holder hangs on the wall holds 2 bowls

Image
Andy creates a wall double bowl holder. WB-2 is the item number. He can also make it longer to hold three large bowls. The trencher in this holder is 14" across and 3" deep. Deep wooden bowls are successfully shown in the iron bowl holder. Fine mess pottery listed in margin can create a large bowl for you to display.Looking for handmade wooden bowls ? I found in NH www.newhampshirebowlandboard.com . They create maple and cherry wooden bowls, beautiful.
Image
S2- Pie Stand , three shelves can hold pie plate size plates or display pottery. As seen in Country Living magazine it is still our most popular item. Hand riveted together and gracefully hand forged by Andy. A shop display must have! Your customers will be walking out with it!
